Maui, Hawaii
The Mala pier in Maui, Hawaii, is a place of contrasts and complexities. Once a bustling industry hub, it served as a critical shipping facility for the island's pineapple industry. But in 1992, the destructive forces of Hurricane Iniki ravaged the pier with 30-foot waves, leaving much of it in ruins. Today, over 200 feet of the pier remains lie scattered along the ocean floor, and what was once a bustling hub of industry above water is now a healthy artificial reef beneath the surface.
The photograph captures the pier in its crumbling state, worn by the elements, yet still holding onto a sense of timeless grace. The long exposure softens the ocean's waters, creating a spaciousness that allows all the pier's characteristics to shine through.
The Mala pier is a reminder that things are not always what they seem and that the world is full of contradictions and complexities. It's a reminder that even when things fall apart, new life and beauty can emerge. MUSEUM FRAMED STYLE: a 2” deep by 3/8” wide moulding frames the print, with a 1/4” float between the print and the frame.

We work with the top printer and fine art finishers in the country to produce the finished works and impeccable quality is of the utmost importance. With that said, the Dye-Transfer Chrome Print and finishing process is a sensitive one and does require a timeline to produce.
TURNAROUND TIME: GALLERY FLOAT & FLUSH STYLE pieces take 4-5 weeks and MUSEUM FRAMED STYLE pieces take 5-6 weeks.
