 HEALING COASTS OF MAUI

NOVEMBER 2020

Though our individual experiences with this year are unique, I know that we’ve all been affected by unprecedented changes, challenges and uncertainty. And we are all looking forward to less turbulent times. In the midst of 2020’s chaos, I have been more eager than ever to express moments of calm and stillness in my photography.

These four images, Interlude, Makena Eve, Slow Dance and Ho’okipa have come out of my own self-reflection, growth and desire for peace in the last six months. They were taken along the coasts of Maui and are part of my Far Away Isle portfolio.

For the past 7+ months, Hawaii’s COVID restrictions have hindered visitors from coming to the islands. I’ve deeply missed connecting with collectors in person and leading photography workshops.

My extra time has been spent raising our new puppy, Koji, and trying to tell the fuller story behind my work through my website. I am also fortunate to have been able to continue photographing the beautiful scenery around Maui.

As you know, much of my work focuses on capturing peace in nature. These new images celebrate stillness and beauty on the islands - themes that seem more important than ever this year.

2020 has taught me that we need to look over our home environment and our mental & physical health to build stronger immune systems. Diet, exercise, meditation, and focusing on peace and beauty are all ways to help with this.

Like many of our lives right now, these photographs show that even the sharpest rocks can be softened by looking at the bigger pictures. It’s my desire for these images to bring you hope and comfort, and transport you to a place of serenity.
