FAR AWAY ISLE
Maui, Hawaii
On the Ke‘anae coast, there is one rock I return to again and again — a subject I’ve photographed more times than I can count. Each encounter feels different, shaped by tide, weather, and light. On this evening, well after sunset, the shoreline dissolved into lavender tones and long-drifting clouds, revealing Afterlight as one of the rare moments where patience is rewarded with quiet brilliance.
Maui, Hawaii
Compositions like this don’t come by chance. They come from patience—standing with a scene, shifting by inches, waiting for balance to emerge. Here, every element was considered: the lean of the Kiawe trees, the rhythm of the stones, the sweep of surf dissolving into light. Arranging Awareness is about visual harmony, where attention becomes intention, and intention gives rise to form that feels inevitable.
Maui, Hawaii
For more than two decades, I’ve returned to Ukumehame. The Kiawe trees along this coast have been my teachers—stripped to their essentials, reduced to line and form against sea and sky. Working with them, I’ve learned that growth in photography isn’t only about chasing the new; it’s about seeing more deeply into the familiar. Beautiful Bones is part of that long conversation—branches like calligraphy, etched by years of wind and salt.
Maui, Hawaii
Jagged forms break through the sea, black and sharp, as if freshly cast. These rocks were once molten, hurled from the earth in fire, now weathered by centuries of water and salt. In long exposure, the ocean softens to mist, and what remains is the contrast between violence and stillness—Born of Fire, enduring where elements collide.
Maui, Hawaii
The Haleakalā silversword has always felt otherworldly to me—an alien visitor rooted in volcanic soil. To photograph it beneath a sky ablaze with stars seemed only natural. One of the rarest plants on Earth, it blooms once in its lifetime before disappearing. Cosmic Bloom was created in a 20-minute exposure, the foreground painted with light, the heavens traced in motion—a fragile survivor shining against eternity.
Maui, Hawaii
The remains of Kiawe trees stretch into stillness, their form softened by the sea’s slow breath. At Ukumehame, time feels suspended—what was once rooted in earth now drifts toward formlessness. The photograph moves between weight and air, wood and water, reminding us how beauty lives in both what endures and what dissolves.
Maui, Hawaii
A complete presentation of After the Rains I, II, and III. Designed to be experienced together, the set reflects a rare moment on Maui’s west side where water, space, and atmosphere aligned in quiet balance.
Created during a stretch of record rainfall, the mauka landscape held water in a way not often seen—opening the space and allowing the scene to settle into a quieter, more expansive presence. Subtle shifts in light and atmosphere shaped each composition, resulting in a body of work defined by balance, restraint, and stillness.

As the ground held water across the mauka plain, the space opened—allowing the scene to settle into a quieter, more expansive presence. Subtle shifts in atmosphere and light shaped the final composition, resulting in a photograph defined by balance, restraint, and stillness.

Maui, Hawaii
What seems like a vast pool beneath the stars is, in truth, only a small puddle on the Keanae Peninsula. With patience and light as a brush, I revealed the tree and its reflection, turning the night into a quiet meditation. Scale shifts, perception bends, and the ordinary becomes something infinite.
This is A Place to Reflect — where the line between earth and sky dissolves, and a single tree holds its ground in both worlds at once.
Maui, Hawaii
The horizon burned with color, the sky remaking itself in fire and reflection. In Island Creation, earth felt newly risen — a fleeting birth from light and sea, vanishing as quickly as it appeared.
Maui, Hawaii
One stone.
One breath.
The tide drifts in and out,
yet nothing is missing.
To see this is enough.
Maui, Hawaii
Haleakalā’s crater could swallow Manhattan, yet what it holds is not noise but silence — a silence shaped by wind, cloud, and stone over millennia. At sunset I used a long exposure to smooth the passing clouds, their motion dissolving into a slow current of light. The volcano rests, not dormant but alive, carrying its magnitude with a stillness that endures.
Maui, Hawaii
Immovable Mind rests in contrast: rooted stone below, open branches above. It’s less about what moves than what holds — form reduced to its most enduring lines.
Maui, Hawaii
Inscription was made along the Ke‘anae Peninsula, a place where the land writes its story directly into the sea. The lava rocks here feel less like formations than like marks on a page — strokes carved by fire, tide, and time. Set against the still water, they read as a quiet script: elemental, enduring, impossible to erase.
Maui, Hawaii
What remains when everything is stripped away? Integrity of Form is about that question. Here, the skeletal tree leans into the vastness, every line sharpened by time and tide. There is no distraction — only the essence of shape and presence, holding steady against horizon and sea.
Maui, Hawaii
South of Lahaina, I’ve photographed this stretch of coast thousands of times. On this evening it wasn’t the sweep of the shoreline that held me, but something smaller — the last light catching on wet stones.
Interlude is about that pause, where even the simplest detail becomes enough.
Maui, Hawaii
The Ke‘anae Peninsula is my favorite place to photograph on Maui. Its shoreline feels timeless — black volcanic stone holding steady against the endless push of the Pacific. Among all its formations, this rock has become my favorite on the island.
In Is This Love, the ocean surges around it at sunset, equal parts violent and tender. The image lives in that tension, where force and grace meet and cannot be separated.
Maui, Hawaii
At Makena Beach, the sea and sky merge in motion, softened by long exposure until the photograph takes on the character of a painting. Layers of sand, turquoise water, and drifting clouds blur into a luminous gradient — a vision less about detail and more about atmosphere.
Island Life reflects how the camera, with time, can transform reality into something both familiar and dreamlike.
Maui, Hawaii
Along a stretch of Hāna’s coastline few ever reach, the ocean pounds against black lava in endless rhythm. The air thickens with mist, and the sea itself seems to breathe.
Kahuna Spirit speaks to the unseen power of this shore — a place where presence feels ancient, enduring, and alive.
Maui, Hawaii
Along the south shore, weather sweeps around the island — clouds, rain, and light chasing each other across the horizon. At sunset it broke open, and a double rainbow rose above the sea.
Kiss on the Horizon is that fleeting gift of nature, a reminder that even the most unpredictable conditions can turn to wonder in an instant.
Maui, Hawaii
I’ve been photographing Ukumehame Beach since the beginning of my career. Years ago, the shoreline was lined with skeletal kiawe trees; today, only the stumps remain. Lion’s Roar comes from that ongoing study — proof that even as the landscape changes, it continues to offer forms that speak with strength and presence.
Maui, Hawaii
At Hāna’s remote Red Sand Beach, a downpour left me waiting under an umbrella, unsure if the morning would open at all. Ten minutes later, the storm broke—and the cove ignited in luminous gold.
Luminous is about that shift: the moment light triumphs over uncertainty, transforming the entire shoreline into radiance.
Maui, Hawaii
The Kiawe trees along Maui’s coast have stood through storms, tides, and years of salt air — weathered, resilient, skeletal. In Luminous Mind, they rise from the sea like memory itself, luminous against water stilled by time. The photograph is less about shoreline and more about endurance, clarity, and the quiet strength of what remains.
Maui, Hawaii
Evening settles over Makena, where land, sea, and sky dissolve into one quiet gradient. A scene reduced to its essentials — stillness, horizon, and the slow fade of light.
Oahu Hawaii
Sunrise on Oʻahu. The Koʻolau Mountains rise, their ridges mirrored with such clarity it feels as if two worlds exist at once. A reflection, a doubling, a reminder that paradise is never singular.
Maui, Hawaii
Stone and tide dissolve into light, the horizon holding both fire and calm.
Reverie is less a scene than a state — where the elements merge into something imagined yet entirely real.
Maui, Hawaii
At the edge of Hāna, water gathers into stillness before returning to the sea. In its surface, the sky rests quietly — a mirror between earth and horizon.

Maui, Hawaii
Across the Pacific horizon, stone rises and dissolves — fragments held between sea and sky. In their scattering, a rhythm emerges: order inside disorder, stillness inside motion.
Scattered reflects the quiet strength of the island’s edge, where permanence meets impermanence.
Maui, Hawaii
Along Maui’s coast, a hidden cove opens briefly into quiet. The long exposure draws the water into stillness, carrying the hush of evening across sand and stone.
Secret Serenity reflects the rare moments when the island feels wholly at rest — spacious, unguarded, and timeless.
Maui, Hawaii
Captured near Ukumehame State Beach Park, the Kiawe trees have been a subject I’ve returned to often. On this evening, nearly forty minutes after sunset, I used a four-minute exposure to lift the fading light — creating the impression of dusk held closer to day.
The softened water carries the stillness I seek: a quiet spaciousness where form feels alive, shifting, transformed.
Maui, Hawaii
What endures does not speak, yet it holds everything that has passed.
Silent Witness is the presence that remains — pared back, unadorned, undeniable.
Maui, Hawaii
On shifting sand and against endless tide, the tree remains. Weathered to bone, stripped of excess, it stands as proof of what endures.
Testament is less about survival than presence — a record written in form, pared back yet resolute.

The End of Suffering suggests release: not loss, but a return to stillness.
Maui, Hawaii
Volcanic stone holds its ground while tide and light move endlessly around it. What seems immovable and what cannot be held meet here — two forces in quiet exchange.
The Far Shore reveals that permanence and impermanence are never separate, but always shaping one another.
Maui, Hawaii
Clouds gather and ascend, obscuring detail until only light and contour remain. Land, sea, and sky dissolve into one field — a vision less of place than of becoming.
The Rising is presence unbound: form breaking into formlessness, matter lifting toward light.
Maui, Hawaii
Rooted in sand yet reaching skyward, driftwood meets the rising moon in quiet alignment. A form worn smooth by tide, now lit by silver light, caught between permanence and passing.
Tidewood Moon is a meditation on thresholds — where ocean and sky, earth and light converge into balance.
Maui, Hawaii
I used a flash mid-exposure to stop the wave at its peak — every droplet caught and suspended against the night sky. What would normally vanish in an instant is held here, permanent.
Distant island light glows at the horizon as twilight yields to stars. Waterdance is the collision of force and precision, a fleeting gesture made visible.
Maui, Hawaii
Bent yet unbroken, the palm yields to the wind without losing its ground. Motion passes through it, but what endures is strength shaped by grace.
Windward is a study in resilience — how balance is not the absence of force, but the way we meet it.
Maui, Hawaii
In Hana, time gathers itself in layers — water shaped over centuries, valleys carved in patience, light returning with each new day.
Xanadu is both origin and renewal: a reminder that beauty here is never fixed, only revealed again and again.
Maui, Hawaii
A weathered branch rises into open horizon — stripped to its bones, yet still reaching.
Time reduces, but also refines. What endures is pared back, essential, undeniable.

La Jolla, California
Some places have a way of bringing us back to center. Along the La Jolla coast, not far from where I once lived in a small apartment above the sea, I spent years returning to this break wall—early mornings, quiet evenings, watching the tide shift against its curve. Coming back after many years away, the wall was unchanged: the same stone, the same deliberate pull of the ocean. What had shifted was within me.
Where We Once Stood isn’t about nostalgia. It is about presence—the quiet recognition of being here, balanced between memory and possibility. The wall didn’t need to lead anywhere; it only needed to hold.
Japan
On the way to photograph a pier, a simple windbreaker stopped me in my tracks. Honshu Japan
It was a rainy New Year’s day in Japan when I stopped under a tree for shelter, drawn to the fishing screens leading the eye across the lake. At first it was their geometry that spoke to me, but later Fishing for Dreams revealed more. The fish drawn into these walls reminded me how easily we too can be confined by form—by the pull of problems, desires, emotions. Serenity, I realized, is found in the spaciousness beyond.

VENEZIA
Venice, Italy
Light softens the edges, water carries the rhythm, stone holds the line. In this balance of movement and permanence, the city reveals why it has been called beautiful for centuries — not as ornament, but as essence.
Venezia Bella is less a view than a presence: the quiet grace of a city poised between water and sky, past and future, the fleeting and the eternal.
Venice, Italy
Posts rise from the canal as they have for centuries, silent witnesses to a city that shifts yet never loses its rhythm. The façades glow with the same light that touched them a hundred years ago — yesterday and memory overlapping until they are indistinguishable.
The Standing holds that continuity. It is Venice as it has always been: enduring not through permanence, but through the constancy of its presence — weathered, resilient, unchanged in essence even as time moves on.
Venice, Italy
Eight posts rise in rhythm, echoing the toll of the campanile beyond. Each one a measure, a mark, a pause — holding time in place as it slips away.
Here, the number is not a count but a cadence. Eight as balance, as eternity tipped on its side, as the bell that calls both the present and the past into the same instant.
Venice, Italy
Pattern beneath, horizon beyond. The mind wants to choose between them — detail or vastness, order or openness. Yet both belong.
In the play of geometry and silence, presence is whole. Nothing needs to be resolved.
Venice, Italy
At the edge, the mind reaches for certainty — yet only stillness answers.
The steps lead down, not into stone, but into openness.
Here, the unknown is not to be feared. It is already holding you.
Venice, Italy
Fire-red in the lagoon,
Bell tower veiled in fog,
Now I am aware.
Venice, Italy

The soft, natural light of early morning and the calm waters create a moment of rare tranquility, brought to life through long-exposure photography. Years of observing this location culminated in this image—a harmonious alignment of light, lines, and stillness.
Venice, Italy
Here, the dialogue between eras is unmistakable: steel and glass sweeping toward centuries of brick and stone. At the threshold of Venice, the city reveals its paradox — forever rooted in history, yet never untouched by change.
Ponte Moderna is not a matter of choosing past or future, but of holding both at once: the weight of tradition beside the reach of invention. In this balance, Venice continues to define itself — suspended between memory and possibility.
Venice, Italy
Amid an open expanse, two markers rise and hold their ground — turning endless water and sky into place, into measure, into meaning.
Here, space is not absence but presence. What remains unoccupied becomes the subject itself — a study in proportion, balance, and the quiet power of restraint.
Venice, Italy
Here, time slows into stillness, yet something remains alert — a presence that waits, patient and unyielding. In the balance between endurance and disappearance, Lookout holds its place as witness: not to any single moment, but to the passing of countless ones.
It is less about what is seen than about what persists — the act of watching, the quiet stance of resilience. In this way, the work becomes not an image of Venice, but a meditation on vigilance itself: how to remain, how to endure, how to see without turning away.
Venice, Italy
Against the pale expanse of water and sky, a yellow frame hangs in perfect symmetry, its cables taut, its form precise. Stripped of context, it ceases to be mere machinery and becomes something else entirely: a study in balance, tension, and possibility.
The composition reduces Venice to its essentials — line, color, space — while elevating the ordinary into the extraordinary. Lift is less about what the object does, and more about what it suggests: the quiet strength in suspension, the elegance in utility, the grace that emerges when function is seen through the lens of stillness.
Venice, Italy
Slender red pilings rise from the lagoon like strokes of calligraphy, their surfaces catching the first touch of light. The dock extends forward in quiet symmetry, drawing the eye into a vast field of water and sky that dissolves into pure stillness. In the long exposure, the surface becomes luminous — less liquid than light itself — transforming the ordinary act of mooring into a vision of transcendence.
Illuminata speaks to Venice as a city revealed by illumination: light on stone, light on water, light as presence itself. Here, structure and atmosphere meet in a moment that feels both eternal and immediate — a meditation on grace, clarity, and the radiance of stillness made visible.
Venice, Italy
Four weathered posts rise from the lagoon, their yellow caps glowing softly against the pale horizon. Stripped of all distraction, they stand as quiet sentinels, their reflections trailing downward like echoes dissolving into water. The long exposure smooths away the tide until only stillness remains — a silence so complete it feels almost audible.
Once practical markers for navigation, they now read as symbols of presence and orientation in a boundless expanse. In their simplicity, they whisper of guidance and direction, yet leave space for mystery — reminding us that clarity is not always found in detail, but in what endures when everything else falls away.
Venice, Italy
Rising from the lagoon in quiet rhythm, the painted pilings and weathered planks form a delicate geometry against the soft expanse of water and sky. The long exposure transforms the surface into a luminous haze, erasing movement until only structure and color remain — yellow, green, blue — elemental strokes on an infinite canvas.
What was once purely functional becomes poetic: mooring posts turned into markers of balance and passage. The composition speaks to Venice’s gift for elevating the ordinary into the extraordinary, where even a simple pontile becomes a meditation on light, time, and the quiet elegance of endurance.
Venetian Lagoon, Italy
The composition showcases a simple yet striking image of an offshore fishing hut. The hut appears to be floating in an expanse of spaciousness that seems to stretch on endlessly. The long exposure of 4-minutes has created a dreamlike quality, blurring the water and enhancing the sense of peace and freedom that permeates the scene.
The fishing huts of the Venetian lagoon are a common sight, yet each is unique, with its distinct character and personality. They attest to the timeless fishing tradition in these waters and represent the Venetian people's close relationship with the sea. The hut in this photograph is no exception, with its rustic wooden exterior and weathered roof that speaks of a life lived in harmony with the elements.

These poles, known as "bricole," are commonly used as mooring posts for boats and mark the boundary of navigable waters. The white color of the poles represents the shallower waters, while the yellow stripes indicate the deeper areas that are safe for boats to navigate.
Beyond their functional purpose, the striped poles have become an important cultural symbol of Venice. They are a beloved sight for both locals and visitors, representing the unique and intricate system of canals and waterways that make Venice such a distinctive and charming city. In "Early Morning Mooring," the poles stand tall and proud against the warm tones of the morning light, evoking a sense of stillness and peacefulness that is quintessential to the Venetian way of life.
Venice, Italy
Burano, the small island in the Venetian lagoon, is known for its brightly colored buildings. The tradition dates back to when fishermen painted their homes bright colors so they could easily spot them when returning from sea. The canals of Burano are like veins running through the heart of the island, connecting the people and the vibrant energy that pulses through the streets.
I used a long exposure to capture the stillness and peacefulness of the water, creating a mirror-like reflection of the vibrant architecture. The tranquil water and the reflection of the stunning buildings evoke a feeling of stillness that is hard to come by in this busy world. Here in Burano, time seems to stand still, allowing one to embrace life's beauty and colors fully.
Venice, Italy
I stand on the canal's edge, mesmerized by the tranquil beauty of the Blue Pontili. The poles are not merely for mooring boats but are symbols of the resilience and resourcefulness of the Venetians. For centuries, they have used these poles to navigate the city's maze of waterways and to keep their boats safe from the powerful currents of the Adriatic. And yet, as I look out over the water, with soft vision and a settled mind, I am struck by the sense of spaciousness that stretches out before me. It is as if the canals have opened up to allow the city to breathe and find peace. I am grateful for this beautiful city and its people, who have faced countless challenges yet still find beauty and meaning in the simplest things.
Venice, Italy
The worn stone colonnade stretches toward the lagoon, its surfaces marked by centuries of salt and air. Each block and pillar holds the weight of history, yet stands in quiet dialogue with the expanse of water and sky. The soft haze beyond dissolves the boundary between earth and horizon, evoking a sense of passage not only through space, but through memory itself.
In this meeting of permanence and vanishing, Venice feels suspended outside the present — a city that belongs as much to recollection as to reality. Back in Time invites us to linger in that liminal space, where architecture becomes both anchor and echo, and where the past remains vividly, almost tangibly, alive.
Venice, Italy
Captured along the tranquil edges of Burano, this image reflects my fascination with the quiet spaces where land meets water. As vibrant and lively as Burano is, I found myself drawn to its outskirts, where calmness prevails. I spent hours immersed in this small, overlooked area, focusing on the simple elegance of this lamppost against the vast expanse of the lagoon.
Venice, Italy
Bathed in the soft light of dawn, the gondolas rest in gentle motion before the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, its marble façade rising with quiet majesty. Through long exposure, their movement becomes less about passage and more about presence — a serene rhythm that contrasts with the permanence of stone.
In this delicate balance between water and architecture, transience and endurance, Venice reveals its timeless allure. The image distills the city’s essence into a study of grace: fluid yet anchored, fleeting yet eternal. It is an invitation not merely to see Venice, but to experience the quiet luxury of stillness, where beauty is held as much in what moves as in what endures.
Venice, Italy
The orange life preserver looks like a beacon of hope, contrasting against the tranquil still waters of Venice. It's as if the life preserver symbolizes the city's unwavering spirit, always ready to rise to the challenge and keep itself and its inhabitants afloat in the face of adversity. Given that the combination of rising sea levels and subsidence has caused Venice to sink by nearly a foot over the past century, the life preserver embodies a metaphor for the unyielding resilience and determination of the Venetians, who bravely confront the rising tides and sinking land with grit and grace.
The bucket - which I choose to see as half-full - symbolizes the resilience and perseverance of the people of Venice, who have weathered countless storms and still found a way to stay afloat. Or it represents the idea that even amid the chaos, we can always find a way to find beauty and meaning. Whatever the interpretation, the sight of the blue bucket is a powerful reminder that sometimes the simplest things can have the most significant impact. True in the framing of a photograph and life.
Venice, Italy
The Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute rises luminous against the horizon, its domes mirrored in the still waters below. In this reflection, the city seems both anchored and dissolving, held in delicate tension between presence and disappearance. The symmetry is not perfect — the water softens edges, blurs details, and reminds us that Venice’s beauty has always been inseparable from its fragility.
Here, permanence meets impermanence. Stone and water, light and shadow, the seen and the reflected — all converge into a meditation on the mother element that both sustains and threatens the city. Acqua Madre is not just water as surface, but water as origin, water as fate. It is Venice revealed in duality: resilient and ethereal, eternal and fleeting.
FOG CITY
San Francisco, California
Flowers below. Bridge above.
Fleeting beauty rising toward lasting form.
San Francisco, California
Time rushes forward—
headlights, currents, clouds.
Through it all,
the tower endures.
San Francisco, California
A threshold lit, yet unresolved.
Neither fully here, nor fully gone.
The in-between holds its own presence.
San Francisco, California
Evening descends.
The bridge glows against the fading horizon.
At your feet, blossoms hold the last light.
Because you looked, presence reveals itself.
San Francisco, California
Stone holds.
Birds gather.
Fog moves.
The bridge drifts in and out of view.
Between then and when, stillness anchors the fleeting.
San Francisco, California
The skyline softens beneath a veil of pink dusk.
Bridges stretch, lights flicker, the city exhales.
For a moment, San Francisco blushes —
and stillness holds it all.
San Francisco, California
The city rises, the bridge spans, the tide erases.
One word remains.
Danger.
Not as warning, but as presence — a marker of what cannot be ignored.
San Francisco, California
The pier stands in soft blue light, neither arrival nor departure, but a pause between. Time stretches, water stills, and the structure holds its breath.
Here, movement is already written. Departure is understood.
San Francisco, California
Suspended lines vanish into silence, their weight erased by fog. Presence is reduced to proportion alone — rhythm without anchor, form without certainty.
In the absence of ground, structure becomes pure gesture. What remains is not connection, but continuity: a quiet tether between permanence and impermanence.
San Francisco, California
From beneath the canopy, columns divide the view — skyline and bridge glimpsed through measured intervals. What is usually expansive is now framed, pared down to proportion.
In departure, the city recedes, yet presence remains.
San Francisco, California
GOLDEN GATE²
The bridge glows against the night, doubled in reflection — presence multiplied, squared in silence. What is already iconic becomes something more: light carried twice, form renewed.

In the absence of ground, structure becomes pure gesture. What remains is not connection, but continuity: a quiet tether between permanence and impermanence.
San Francisco, California
The Bay Bridge extends into silence, its form pared back through long exposure until water and air fall away. Structure becomes presence, luminous and enduring.
Halfway across, time holds still.
San Francisco, California
From Pier 7, the city gathers in lines and light — the Transamerica Pyramid anchoring the skyline. Yet through long exposure, the restless movement is pared away, leaving only balance and calm.
What is usually noise becomes silence. The city remains, but inward from here.
San Francisco, California
Composed on foot while walking the bridge, this image captures more than geometry—it captures presence. A quiet moment of balance between light, line, and the open air. Nothing rushed. Nothing wasted. Just the pause, and what can be seen within it.
San Francisco, California
Separate yet inseparable — stone and tide, presence and absence. Each form distinct, yet held within the same stillness.
What divides is only surface. Beneath it, there is no separation. Not two.
San Francisco, California
The rock face meets the tide without resistance — its edges carved, its presence unshaken. Nothing is asked of it now; it simply endures.
In the calm, there is no struggle, no reaching. Only form, pared back to essence. Nothing left to prove.
San Francisco, California
A single line extends into the bay, pulling the eye toward a city half-veiled in fog. Built to divide water from water, it becomes something else — a threshold, a question of where distance ends and presence begins.
In the hush, every journey circles back here: the point of return.
San Francisco, California
Weathered timbers rise from the tide, pared back by time yet unbroken. Their silence carries more than words — a presence that endures beyond use or purpose.
In what remains, the past is not gone. It is still speaking.
San Francisco, California
Steel and light converge, holding their place between the quiet of the bay and the blaze of the city. The bridge does not only connect shores — it suspends two realms: silence and noise, solitude and multitude.
In this balance, presence is revealed — suspended, enduring, unshaken.
San Francisco, California
Steel spans the sky, fixed and unyielding. Beyond it, a flock passes — brief, weightless, unbound.
Structure and flight, permanence and passage. In the balance, the line holds.
San Francisco, California
Lights pour forward into the fog, dissolving into a horizon that never arrives. The familiar span becomes something else — not a bridge across water, but a line drawn into absence.
In the stillness, motion carries a different weight. What endures is not speed or passage, but presence unfolding one quiet instant at a time.
San Francisco, California
From beneath its span, the bridge reveals itself as rhythm and proportion — column after column, carrying weight into distance. Time stretches here, every line converging into quiet inevitability.
What begins as structure becomes passage, unfolding beyond measure into stillness without end.
San Francisco, California
From the vantage of Battery Yates, outside the gentle curve of Horseshoe Bay, unfolds a view few ever see. Through long exposure, the ceaseless currents of the Pacific are distilled into a serene expanse, as minutes merge into one continuous breath. Every restless wave becomes a tranquil veil.
The result is a passage not only through the iconic strait, but into a realm of stillness and quiet presence. Veiled Passageembodies this shift — San Francisco revealed not as a metropolis of noise, but as a sanctuary of silence.
San Francisco, California
What the tide erases, the rock remembers.
Silence becomes continuity.
San Francisco, California
Arrayed like a giant harp across the bay, the Golden Gate's suspender cables are integral to its majesty. Each vertical strand, meticulously anchored, plays a pivotal role in upholding the immense weight of the roadway below. But beyond their structural function, these cables tell a story. In the quiet hours of dawn or the muted twilight, they transform. No longer just architectural sinews, they become delicate threads weaving a tapestry of serenity against the vastness of the bay. 'Wired' captures this duality — the blend of industrial strength with ethereal beauty

DARK COAST
Jökulsárlón, Iceland
In Floating Ice, fragments drift in silence, luminous against the weight of sky. Their sharp edges and fragile forms are only temporary — pauses in the long return from solid to sea. A meditation on impermanence, and the fleeting beauty of what cannot last.
Bandon, Oregon
In Fourth Degree, the sea smooths into silence while stone rises in sharp defiance. A portrait of endurance measured not in years but in eons, where presence itself feels elemental — stripped to what cannot be erased.
Maui Hawaii
In Fragmented, the coast feels shattered — black rock scattered like remnants of an ancient upheaval, the sea drifting soft between. A vision of resilience within ruin, and the strange order that emerges from what is broken.
Big Island, Hawaii
In Genesis, fire breaks the sea open, rising in steam beneath a sudden rainbow. Creation revealed not as myth, but as this fleeting moment — fierce, luminous, alive.
Jökulsárlón, Iceland
In Ice and Rain, water shows its oldest face — glacier carved for centuries, now breaking free into the lagoon. Blue as memory, fragile as breath, it drifts toward dissolution. A reminder that even the most enduring forms are only pauses in the movement of time.
Maui Hawaii
Restless clouds move with urgency, yet the sea remains unmoved. In Impetuous Skies, the world feels caught between two tempos — one wild, one still. A reminder of how opposites can meet in quiet tension, and how balance often comes through contrast.
Iceland
Rain draped the coast in silence, the inlet filling with ocean drawn smooth by time. In Looking for Tomorrow, the water stretches forward into haze — a passage without clear end, carrying the weight of uncertainty and the pull of what lies unseen.
Big Island, Hawaii
Mythical Waters carries the weight of creation’s shadow — where fire disappears into sea and the world exhales in smoke. A vision half-real, half-dream, reminding that every beginning is also an ending, and every ending feeds the dark tide of becoming.
Big Island, Hawaii
There are moments when the world feels bare, stripped of everything but its rawest truth. Naked in the Wind carries that essence — fierce, fleeting, unguarded. Fire meets ocean and rises as steam, unbound, weightless, free. A reminder that even in endings there is release, and in release, a beginning.
Big Island, Hawaii
Before dawn, from the deck of a small boat, I witnessed earth being born. In New Earth, molten lava met the Pacific in fire and thunder, each collision giving rise to smoke, steam, and brand-new land. These fleeting encounters — rare, violent, luminous — are the planet remaking itself in real time, creation and destruction inseparable.

Maui Hawaii
The night was absolute, the tree nearly swallowed by it — until I swept its form with light. In Night Kiawe, the branches ignite for a breath, glowing against the endless dark. It is the meeting of earth and cosmos, made visible only through illumination — a moment borrowed from night, revealed and then returned.
Big Sur, California
The Big Sur coast feels less like a place than a pause — cliffs and sea caught in a rhythm older than memory. In Big Sur, the rocks rise out of still water like thoughts half-formed, holding steady as the horizon dissolves into haze. It’s the kind of view that slows you down, until even time seems content to wait.
Big Sur, California
At Point Lobos, stone leans into sea and sea leans back — a conversation carried on for ages. In Point Lobos, the water moves slow, blurred to stillness, while the rock holds steady, weathered but unbroken. It feels both ancient and immediate, as if time itself were pausing here, if only for a breath.
Maui Hawaii
The last light of day touched the branches, pulling fire from weathered wood. In Radiating Reach, the kiawe stretches outward over the sea, its form both gnarled and graceful, scarred and luminous. A reminder that beauty is often born from endurance — the way time carves, the way light reveals.
Vik, Iceland
The tide moves in silence, the sky holding its own soft grief. In Remembrance, the sea stack rises alone, its shadow stretching across the sand as a rainbow fades into distance. Standing here, I thought of absence — how love endures even after form has vanished, how memory keeps its shape long after the body is gone.
Jökulsárlón, Iceland
They had traveled together for thousands of years — from snow to glacier, from glacier to sea. Now, in Sculpted, the ice rests in two forms, facing one another on black sand, luminous against the storm. There’s a quiet recognition between them, an energy held in the space they share — as if seeing themselves anew before dissolving back to water. What endures is not the form, but the eternal cycle of return.
Maui, Hawaii
On the edge of storm and silence, shadows conceal more than they reveal. In Secrecy, the shoreline holds its quiet truth — palm fronds leaning, clouds gathering, waves retreating into dark stone. A meditation on what remains hidden, on the power of what the world chooses not to show.
Maui, Hawaii
Night on the Kapalua coast, the sea pounding against volcanic rock. In Shape of Water, I left the shutter open long enough to let the darkness settle in, then burst the flash at the exact instant of impact — freezing the ocean mid-air, sculpted in light. A fleeting surge, made permanent: form rising out of chaos, clarity born from motion.
Oregon Coast, Oregon
The ocean folds in on itself, vanishing into a dark, unending throat. In Thor’s Well, the sea becomes both creation and collapse, a paradox of movement without end. Standing before it, I felt the raw pulse of inevitability — water falling, returning, rising again — a cycle without beginning or conclusion.
Big Island, Hawaii
From fire into ocean, from earth into air — creation and dissolution bound in a single breath. In Thousand Winds, I felt the ancient poem echo: I am a thousand winds that blow. What began as molten weight became vapor, rising into the sky, vanishing into unseen currents — a reminder of how even the fiercest force becomes part of something larger.
Maui, Hawaii
There are places the maps don’t show — where time feels suspended and the world falls away. In Undiscovered, the ocean softens into silence, revealing only a dark edge of stone holding its ground. What remains is not a scene, but a sensation: remote, unseen, quietly infinite.
Seal Rocks, Oregon
Dark seas rush and pull across the Oregon Coast, swirling around jagged sea stacks and stone. In the long exposure, the water softens into mist and movement, creating a scene where turbulence and stillness meet. The foreground rock anchors the eye, a place of calm amid the storm, as sky and sea fold into one another.
Big Island, Hawaii
On the coast of Hawai‘i, molten lava meets the sea in a clash of elements — fire against water, creation against resistance. The air thickens with steam, the earth reshapes itself in real time. This photograph, Where the Light Enters You, takes its name from Rumi’s verse: “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” It is an image of rupture and renewal, of nature’s raw power to break open and begin again.
Maui Hawaii

In Duo, stone and sea lean into one another, holding balance at the island’s wild edge. A meeting of permanence and passing, where even silence feels alive.
Big Island, Hawaii
In Edge of the World, fire tears into ocean, the horizon vanishing in smoke and flame. A vision of creation at its most unforgiving — raw, violent, and absolute.

The scene feels hidden yet timeless—an interplay of color and structure, delicacy and strength. Behind the Temple reflects the beauty found when one looks beyond the obvious.
Kyoto, Japan
At Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari Shrine, thousands of red torii gates form a path that winds up the sacred mountain. Usually crowded with visitors, I arrived before sunrise after a rainstorm, when the forest was still dripping and lanterns cast a soft glow through the corridors. Endless Torii captures the rare stillness of this iconic site, a passageway that seems infinite.
Kyoto, Japan
Fall Dance captures a Kyoto maple tree surrounded by a sea of fallen leaves, their fiery reds and golds layering the earth like a living tapestry. Each leaf seems part of a greater rhythm, a seasonal choreography that celebrates impermanence. This photograph is both vibrant and meditative, honoring nature’s fleeting beauty.
Kyoto, Japan
Kenshō is a Zen term meaning “seeing one’s true nature.” In this Kyoto forest, autumn maples blaze against the slender trunks of bamboo, offering a vision of both depth and clarity. The interplay of color and form creates a meditative balance—an invitation to pause, reflect, and look more deeply.
Mt. Koya, Japan
In the quiet of night at Mt. Koya, a solitary torii gate emerged from the forest with renewed presence. By day, the scene felt busy, but under darkness—with subtle light-painting—the red gate glowed vividly against the towering trees. Night Torii reflects both the sacred threshold these gates symbolize and the meditative stillness discovered when all else falls away.
Mt. Koya, Japan
Created at Mt. Koya’s Okunoin Cemetery—Japan’s largest and most sacred burial ground—Nightwalker is a rare self-portrait. During a long exposure, I walked the lantern-lined path with a red headlamp, leaving a streak of light weaving through the ancient stones and towering trees. The result is both surreal and reverent, capturing the lingering energy of this mystic place.

In the sacred grounds of Mt. Koya’s Okunoin Cemetery, this weathered torii stands as a memorial to Samurai warlord Mizuno Katsunari (1564–1651). Flanked by towering trees and illuminated in the stillness of night, the gate honors both strength and artistry. For me, it was a place where history, devotion, and quiet presence converged—an image of endurance and spirit.

Hokkaido, Japan
How much can be taken away before meaning disappears? In Last Remaining Form, the skeletal frame of a greenhouse stands against snow and sky, its story carried as much by the surrounding space as by the form itself. What remains is not emptiness, but balance—where silence and clarity begin to emerge.
Maui, Hawaii

Matrix is born of my love for photographing poles in water, where geometry emerges from disorder, and order finds its own kind of poetry.
Banff, Canada
There are places where beauty needs no seeking—it simply arrives, whole and undeniable. In Meditations, the peaks, forest, and water fall into effortless accord, a harmony so complete it feels composed by something greater. To stand before such order is to be reminded of how profoundly the world can align.
Lost Coast, California
California’s Lost Coast is the last stretch of the West Coast left wild and undeveloped, reachable only by foot. Under moonlight, the shoreline reveals its raw solitude—a place few will ever see. In this photograph, the crescent moon casts its light across the still waters, a fleeting moment of beauty held in one of the most remote corners of California.

In Zen, Mushotoku is the attitude of a mind free from grasping — a state that does not seek profit, reward, or attachment to objects. Mushotoku Pier reflects this spirit: weathered and imperfect, yet still stretching outward with quiet dignity. Its symmetry evokes balance and calm, even as its brokenness reminds us of life’s fragility.
The image becomes more than landscape — it is a teaching. Even in adversity, there is peace. Even in imperfection, freedom and happiness remain. Here the beauty of Japan’s waterside meets the wisdom of Zen, pointing us beyond dualities and beyond the limits of ego.

Maui, Hawaii
Beneath the dark skies of Haleakalā, I found her—otherworldly, luminous, unlike any form I had ever known. In Silversword, what feels alien becomes sacred: a plant that lives for decades only to bloom once, scattering its seed before returning to the cosmos. To stand before her under a sky of endless stars is to stand in awe of beauty, fragility, and wonder beyond words.
Hokkaido, Japan
In Snowy Afternoon, the landscape softens into silence. Trees stand lightly against the whiteness, a simple scene carrying the quiet beauty of winter’s calm.

I’ve long held this image close, seeing in The Art of Peace not an image to interpret, but a space to inhabit. Near the summit of Haleakalā, under the August new moon, the sky revealed itself in its fullest depth—one of the finest stargazing places on Earth. With a flashlight, I traced light across the road’s lines, pulling them forward to meet the arc of the Milky Way above. In The Way, earth and cosmos become joined, the line of the road echoing the path of stars, both pointing toward what lies beyond. A meditation on journey—rooted here, reaching there, guided by light in the vast unknown.

On Iceland’s Diamond Beach, I lit this block of glacial ice from behind, its core igniting into a luminous form against the dark shore.
